Backbreakanomics

That's the title to the excellent sophomore album from Mars Ill.
Cop this cd.

But really, economics is the subject of this post. Economics is a science, as is biology, or chemistry. It is considered a social science, which lumps it together with sociology, psychology, anthropology, political science, and history. This is a misnomer, because economics is based on empirical evidence and hard facts, while many of these other social sciences have become nothing more than academia's post-modern quest for self-indulgence.

It is worth thinking about how many of what many consider the most important issues facing citizens today are dependant on a proper understanding of economics. It is also surprising how many people speak boldly about the economy without ever studying this science. It's as if people think because they are a part of the national economy, a complex beast, they know how it should work and what it should provide. That'd be like me prattling on about stem cell research without having studied the topic just because I am a biological creature.

I am reading Basic Economics by Thomas Sowell, among other books right now. I hope to post some practical lessons regarding all economic systems, as well as illustrate the difference in specific economies in the coming weeks. I am studying for a state engineering licensing exam, so I am considering putting all other reading on hold (NOOOO!) until the test date. I also am in love and getting married this year, so I will have a post coming up on chicas, which is long overdue. Lex Rex
