Here is the toast I made to ring in the new year. I wrote it on a Monical's placemat starting at 2:30pm yesterday, so don't get your hopes up:
From north and south, from far and wide
By air and road and various ride
They set upon our fair Champaign
To watch as year ought five doth wane
With drinks held high and spirits higher
They boasted, toasted, and conspired
To make merry before year's end
And drink a little, let's not pretend
So, hello new year, we trust to fate
That love, peace, and joy are what awaits
In 2006, we have no clue
But don't screw us over, we're begging you.
Happy New Year.

Come, friendly bombs, and fall on Slough
To get it ready for the plough.
The cabbages are coming now;
The earth exhales.

We should also note that at 10 PM CST on December 31st, the Dude said something like "It's 2006 in New York, deal with it" in a loud voice.
Then he was told its only 11 PM in the NY.
I just read your post on the school in Oakland.
"I don't care what the critics say, because the critics aren't turning schools around," Chavis said in his characteristically caustic tone. "You don't contact me when a school starts. You come to me when it's (expletive) up."
I would take a huge paycut for the chance to work at that school.
