mini-rant

I think it's bad that the last few times I have flown, the only positive things I can say about the experience are precisely these two:

1. The flights weren't too late.

2. I didn't die.

My two flights on the way back to CA were 1.25 hours late taking off and .75 hours late taking off, respectively. On the first, smaller flight, the one and only flight attendant we had managed to make a one minute explanation out of telling us to put our bags under the seat in front of us. Then she told me two separate times that the strap of my bag wasn't far enough under the seat and that I could "catch my foot if I had to run outta here." She walked all slow up and down the aisles too, moving her head from side to side slowly as she came down. I was sitting towards the back so I could actually see people sit up straighter when she came by. I felt like I was on some type of prison transfer flight. After we had sat around for 40 minutes or so on the runway, some dude decided he had had enough so he made the pilot go back to the terminal so he could get off. I estimate that the demeanor of our flight attendant was probably 25% of his decision, which is really saying something if you think about it.

My second, significantly longer flight was equally awesome. Talks Too Loud Boy and his sister, Screamy Scream Scream Girl both made the flight, so don't worry about them. I can account for their precise location on the aircraft for nearly three hours of the flight. Eventually they tired themselves out though so I could doze a bit. We landed a little late, and I was able to memorize a sequence of 12 suitcases that came around over and over at the baggage claim during the 25 minute wait for my own luggage.

I took the train back out to my town and got a ride to my apartment. Despite all of the crappiness, I noticed something funny. I came home to California.

I like #2 on your list.

The prison transfer reference reminds me of "Con Air". Then I remember Nick Cage's southern accent, and I wonder, "Would the_dude rather fly that first flight again, or listen to Nick Cage recite Hamlet in his southern accent?"

Illinois misses you, man.
