Bong Chair

Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, the loser whose jihad found him trying to run over students with a rented SUV last week, wasn't exactly a strict Muslim.

"After speaking with someone who knew Taheri-Azar, a little bit more interesting details come into view. The guy I spoke with said Taheri-azar pledged his fraternity, Sig Ep, and that the frat "blackballed" him, meaning kicked him out because he was such a recluse and antisocial. They referred to him as 'Mo.'"

"The Sig Ep brother said that Taheri-azar was from a wealthy family, a frequent marijuana smoker and "most always high" and that he drank heavily as well."

I probably would have called him "Slo Mo".

Slo Mo! That's awesome. I'm pretty sure the standards board I sat on would have kicked his A to the curb as well.

In the link the author debates whether he is a jihadist or "just crazy". The author says that jihadists are often rational, albeit a different kind of rationale than our own.

I think it's a mistake to believe that "crazy" is the result of purely emotional behavior. As G. K. Chesterton said, it's more likely for mathmeticians to go crazy than poets. The problem (in my mind) with jihadists is that they are purely rational and this rationale is overly simplistic. Their actions are not the result of blind rage and they are not chaotic. They are carefully planned and executed for very specific reasons. That's the worst type of crazy.

Actually, I found that G. K. had a lot to say that applies to terrorism today.

I probably would have used his computer, borrowed his car, used his plates and silverware, watched his DVD's, and played his Xbox.

Then when it was time, I would have told him to meet me in the basement in 5 minutes, bringing a nail file, a 2 cent stamp, and a watermelon.

General, let's have a post on GK and terrorism.

Ha ha. I was going to rag on this guy too, but I don't see what I can add to Oneway's shtick. Nice.
