I'd like to believe most people today can see, prima facie, that substituting "parent" for "father" in the Holy Bible is a mistake. The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood's, or CBMW's, webpage is a great resource for studying gender issues.
CBMW sponsors a webpage that analyzes the TNIV for all that its worth. Here is where you can view a timeline of the inception of the TNIV. It sounds boring to look at a timeline, but it sort of reads like a mini-soap opera, with James Dobson as Susan Lucci.
