Regarding the DaVinci Code

1) Even if Christ were married to Mary Magdelene and had children, how does this amount to anything other than an idle historical curiosity? How would this undermine the assertion that Christ was the Son of God?

2) While the remains of Mary Magdelene would certainly be interesting to find, how would they ever be effective in blackmailing the Catholic Church, even if there were a supposed "heir" of Christ and Mary Magdelene, and we were able to perform DNA testing on both, we could prove that Mary Magdelene was the mother, but how could it be proved that Christ is the father?

3) The only way a cover up is possible is if Christ, the disciples, and the early church were all interested in asserting Christ's divinity AND covering up a marriage to Mary Magdelene because it threatened that divinity. If they were not interested in creating this supposed illusion, then Christ's marriage would have been public because it would not have been out of the ordinary in ancient Jewish culture. If it was public, there would have been eye witnesses and (probably) written accounts, and cover up would have been very difficult if not impossible.

4) The question of Christ's divinity does not hang on whether or not he was married, it hangs on whether or not he was resurrected. CRITICAL POINT! If Christ is divine, then he cannot be dead. If he is still dead (not resurrected) then he is not divine. If A then B. Not B, therefore not A.

5) If Christ was divine AND married to Mary Magdelene, then there would be a coherent theology explaining his divinity and his marriage because anything that God says or does is theologically sound and true.

6) If Christ's marriage and Christ's divinity ARE tied together, then it is easier to frame the cover up around the resurrection. Because if Christ was married, and (supposedly) therefore not divine, then he was also not resurrected. If A then B, and not C. C, therefore not B and not A.

7) A pre-cavlary cover-up is not consistent with the theory that the disciples were expecting a political Messiah. A marriage is not inconsistent with a political Messiah, in fact a marriage and an heir would almost be absolutely necessary for a political Messiah.

8) How could a post-calvary cover-up be successful if the disciples did not write their gospels and Paul did not write his letters until well after Christ had died/resurrected. Word about Christ had already traveled far, and a late cover-up would have been impossible.

Ultimately, I think that the only way a marriage between Christ and Mary Magdelene could be effectively covered up is if Christ, the disciples, and Mary Magdelene colluded to create the story that Christ was divine and to also cover up His marriage to Mary Magdelene. If this wasn't the case, then his marriage would have been too public. However, all of the evidence points to the fact that the disciples were confused about Christ's identity until after his death, then they adamantly asserted his divinity, and not in writing until very late in their lives. The disciples were too reactionary. An effective cover up would have required pre-meditation. It is apparent, however, that the disciples did not openly admit Christ's divinity until after he was dead, and then they didn't write it down until they were almost dead. Not a very good job of covering anything up.

The REAL conspiracy that is thrilling and amazing is how God conspired with Christ, before creation, to bring him Honor and Glory through His life, death, and resurrection. And how God conspired with Abraham, and Moses, and the prophets to include signs, symbols, and traditions, that would all be fulfilled in the virgin birth of the Son of God, his ministry, and his death for the sacrifice of the sins of all humanity: Abraham sacrifices Isaac, the covenant of blood, the sacrificial lamb. It also makes sense that the disciples, not knowing who they were dealing with, would suddenly change their lives and their stories after seeing a resurrected savior on Easter Day, and they, expecting to see Christ come again from the clouds in their lifetime to usher in the new creation, would not commit their testimony into writing until they began to be worried that they may die before he came again.

I don't need the council of Nicea to tell me that Christ was Lord. If the story of the resurrection is true, then Christ was the Son of God indeed. Whether Christ was married has no relevance at all.
