Ports and Politics (Ship Happens Extended Edition)

Joe Carter at the Evangelical Outpost throws a strike with his take on the port controversy.

I'm glad I didn't try to pile on.

Michelle Malkin in known for her cannon, too, and she's on the other side.

The biggest issue seems to be the Bush Administration's ongoing ineffective communication with the public.

I definitely appreciated that link. Although I did know many of the answers to the pop quiz, I was still informed as to what function the Dubai company would hold.
I am still not totally sold on the deal, however. I still want to know why we are changing the company we are outsourcing this responsibility to, why this compnay wasn't American in the first place, why there was no competitive bid for this contract, and what assurance I have that this does not pose a security threat.
This administration has not been dilligent montioring the entrance points into this country. The border is wide open and I am not aware of anything he has done to heighten the security of our nations ports.
This port controversy bothers me because this administration is notorious for pork and no-bid contracts. It all smells of cronyism. Cronyism or a security threat. Either way, I don't like the stink. I think this will probably live on as an example of, not how a poor decision endangered our country, but how a President could be so bad at relating to the public and winning their trust.
